500-hour certification requirements

ATT-500 certification includes an additional 300+ contact hours and 40+ non-contact hours for teachers for 200-hour certified teachers.

305+ Contact Hours
235 hours through 12-weekend modules
+ TT apprenticeship
70+ hours or more hours in non-weekend contact work (assisting classes, observing E-RYT, mentoring, pre/post-natal electives, and/or self-selected teaching electives)

40+ Non-Contact Hours
20+ non-contact hours in karma teaching project
10+ yoga thesis project
10+ non-contact hours in Om-work

30 Minimum Classes at Tranquil Space (during the year cycle)

Additional Contact Hour Requirements
In addition to the weekend classroom requirements, the following are non-classroom requirements for contact hours. These are hours spent with an experience teacher learning technique, philosophy, or teaching methodology. These are opportunities to practice technique or learn specific new tools. The student can decide which areas to elect for additional contact. Work with ATT Director and mentor to develop your plan.

Teacher Training Apprenticeship
Participate as an apprentice for our TT1, TT200, pre-natal, or post-natal training programs. Learn how to hold the seat of a teacher while teaching teachers. Shadow and assist master teachers and E-RYT level teachers as they teach yoga philosophy, asana, pranayama, assisting, teaching circles, and specialty topics. Learn how to take the seat of teacher by leading and planning trainings and workshops. A special observed teaching project shall conclude your journey. Hours can be scheduled during the first weekend of ATT for fall, and the last fall weekend for the spring. 20 Contact Hours required.

Teaching Assistant
Assist a Tranquil Space yoga class with a senior E-RYT level teacher. Become a Teaching Assistant (TA) for a minimum of 30 Tranquil Space classes (37.5 hours). Develop your physical assists and teaching style by working with a senior teacher. Note: All TA’s must audition with the TA director prior to engaging in class commitment. Also, as a benefit, receive a free class for every class you assist. 37.5 Contact Hours required.

Mentoring
On-going mentoring shall be required of all students in the ATT program. Mentors will be lead teachers and graduates of the 500-hour program. You will work together to deepen their understanding of the following: assisting, teaching practicum, sequencing, anatomy, and ethics. 10 Contact Hours required.

Elective Track
As teachers of yoga, we all gravitate towards certain teachers and styles. This elective has been created to allow students to find teachers with whom they resonate and learn more directly from them. Teacher trainees 1) may attend master workshops, 2) create a supervised teaching assistant apprenticeship, 3) undergo individual mentoring, or 4) mix these options to create their ideal learning path. Elective plans must be reviewed and approved by the Teacher Training Director prior to the start of a plan. 10 Contact Hours required, more hours optional, with a maximum of 20 Contact Hours.

Prenatal and Postnatal Elective
ATT students may decide to register for the pre- and/or post-natal teacher trainings at Tranquil Space.  Learn how to support the needs of mothers to be and/or new mothers through specialized yoga. A separate registration fee is required for this elective. See the website for more information and upcoming training dates. 15-30 Contact Hours are encouraged.

Practice Requirement
Daily yoga and meditation practice required. Take a minimum of 30 vinyasa classes taken at Tranquil Space during the ATT year. Teachers receive a 15% discount on class passes or may become a Teaching Assistant to get class credits in trade (see above). You are also encouraged to take classes outside of Tranquil Space in a variety of styles. 37.5 Contact Hours minimum.

Final Teaching-Yoga Thesis

Upon completion of all ATT requirements, students will teach a final class for certification and peer review. Classes shall reflect the advanced components and teaching modalities of the training. Students are expected to demonstrate an advanced integration of teaching methods, physical assists, philosophy, and ethics. An oral interview will also follow with lead teachers, this includes a review of the students final thesis project. Required 10 hours of teaching and observation.

Final Yoga Thesis Certification Fee

ATT grads

For students who purchase weekends individually and who wish to receive the 500-hour yoga alliance certification, an additional certification fee will be charged. This fee includes review of the student's thesis project, review of final teaching, and 500-hour diploma. This fee is only charged upon completion of all program requirements and before a student's final yoga synthesis. This fee does not apply to students who purchase the entire training package. The final yoga synthesis certification fee is $350.

Tranquil Space's ATT program constantly inspired and challenged me.  I left each intensive weekend excited to teach the next day, full of fresh perspectives, tools, and knowledge. The wide range of teachers, my supportive peers, and the diverse topics of study fulfilled exactly what I was craving more of in my quest to continue this path of learning so that I may be a more well-rounded teacher.  I felt I owed that to the students who attend my classes, and to myself.  I gained confidence and have been able to tap in deeper to my authentic voice and teaching style.  I liked that the program includes different points of view, so that, ultimately, it is up to us as teachers (and students!) to decide what resonates within and teach from that place.  I am deeply grateful to all of my teachers and peers for making this experience so fulfilling. - Alice, 2012 ATT graduate
